this is where I had dinner with 3 girlfriends, Sarah Mclachlan, her husband and the Barenaked Ladies last night

ok, so maybe we weren’t ALL at the same table, but we WERE in the same room, so close enough

our evening got off to a great start with a bottle of laughing magpie shiraz/vigonier during which we studied the daily offering of hand-cured meats, artisan cheeses and especially chosen condiments

in the end we simply asked our charming and very knowledgeable waiter to simply surprise us – a decision we absolutely did not regret!

with each selection of cheese, meats and condiments came a flight of specially paired wines and WOW!

I won’t go in to detail with the meats (sausage, salami, smoked pork tenderloin that was kinda like tasting a wee bit of heaven), cheese (SHARP cheddar, buttery camembert) and condiments (almonds, cornichons, pink lady apples), though they were delicious and if you haven’t eaten fresh honeycomb with sharp cheddar you are seriously missing out on one of the true highlights in the epicurean world

however, these are the wines and I would absolutely try and buy each and every one of them – except of course for the Fairview Cellars 2005 Merlot because Salt bought every last bottle!  oh well, I guess I will just have to go back …
